He's Always Watching...

Creepy, right!? Right.

So I have never watched Big Brother before yesterday, and I didn't know really anything about it, and after some research online it is a pretty cool concept. I am not one to necessarily be a fan of "reality tv", in fact unless it is Temptation Island Season One we're watching, I'm not interested, BUT two weeks ago one of my Greeters at the restaurant came to me and told me she would need to be taken off the schedule indefinitely (I am in charge of the greeters). Obviously, I inquired and she let me know she was a finalist for Big Brother and would be cut off from the world until she found out/came back.

Well, last night was the premiere and she's on it!!! SO weird. I know I wouldn't be as into this show or like it as much if it wasn't for Sharon being on it, but the basis for Big Brother intrigues me. Basically, they put a buncha people in a house together and cut them off from EVERYTHING. I am talking tv, music, cell phones, internet, even writing materials!!! Then at some point there's competitions, which is the part I think is cheesy, but they'll even compete for food- and being cut off from everything I would guess this could be a good show to diet on ;)

Being stuck in a house with strangers with nothing to do---cabin fever anyone!? I really don't think they should vote anyone off, just whoever goes crazy first has to leave until the least crazy wins (500,000$$$). That could potentially last longer than 3months, so I guess I see their point.

There's Sharon. She's 23 and works as a greeter and also does real estate in Kansas City. Big Brother's theme is "unlike any other big brother" (so they said) in that it's "Till Death Do Us Part", where they have coupled everyone with their "soul mate" on the show and voting/competitions are done as a couple and you even have to sleep in the same bed as them. Everyone on the show is single---well there is a secret IRL couple that is trying to win it together but they're not coupled together, scandal!----and Sharon recently got out of a 12 year off-on relationship, about 3 months ago (her bf cheated on her). Well, scandal of all scandals, after BB heard of this guy- they asked him to be on it! And they're coupled together! It was so cool/funny to watch. 'Cause it is so totally Sharon in her own element.

I finally set-up my brand new TV so I'll have to call the cable guys over so my GM won't have to keep inviting me over to watch it (she tivos it).

Also, since we're talking about things in the media sorta connected to me, Forbes.com just released an article of "most miserable cities to live in", and guess what- Modesto was on there! So was Stockton, college town of the twin.

I know this will make this post kinda long, but here are the excerpts from forbes.com:

No. 8
Modesto, Calif.

Rank

Commute times 112
Inc
ome tax rates 130
Superfund sites 109
Unemployment 147
Violent crimes 116
Weather 17

Misery Measure 631

George Lucas of Star Wars fame was born in Modesto, and one of his first movies, American Graffiti, was about teenagers cruising the streets of Modesto at night. Modesto could use some of Lucas' $3.9 billion fortune, as unemployment was an unseemly 8.7% in 2007. Of course, that is down from the early 1990s, when it topped 15%.

Ranks are based on the 150 largest metro areas.

No. 2
Stockton, Calif.

Rank

Commute times 135
Income tax rates 130
Superfund sites 116
Unemployment 144
Violent crimes 146
Weather 18

Misery Measure 689

The population of the Stockton metro area soared 28% over the past 10 years as people looked for affordable options to the pricey Bay Area. The population flow helped home prices jump 158% between 2000 and 2005, but they have fallen the past two years, as Stockton has one of the highest foreclosure rates in the country.

Ranks are based on the 150 largest metro areas.

i wish i had watched BB, i'll have to watch next week!
those stats are kinda misleading, especially the unemployment stats in modesto since a lot of people are seasonal with the canneries and the nearby farm land, but whatevs. i'm fo sho not living in modesto when i "grow up" so it doesn't matter i suppose.
